What I could not do for myself, Jesus did at Calvary
Calvary, where Jesus shed His blood for me

Just a rugged piece of wood nailed across another
A tool of execution not so unique from any other
But the day I heard…that the Son of God…hung on one at Calvary
Was the day the cross…became everything to me
It’s just a piece of wood planted toward the sky
So the Son of God himself…could be nailed there to die
Yes a sin bearing, soul saving, life changing tree
That is what… the cross means to me.
Some will wear one ’round their neck or ink it in their skin
But by their lives you can tell…it’s had no effect on them
But one day...I met the man who was nailed on one for me
Since that day the cross…means everything to me.

When Jesus died upon the cross New life He brought to mortal man
When I knelt and gave my life to Jesus From my life He removed all sin

On the sea of life sails a vessel
Surrounded by turmoil and strife
In the mist, storms of doubt pound against Her
But it’s peaceful and calm here inside
It’s the old ship of Zion
Destination made sure long ago
Though confusion and doubt in darkness surround Her
God’s holy light shines the way for Her to go
The fire is still burning, the light is still shining
God still has a church that is holy and pure
The light of eventide still breaks through the darkness
The Old Ship of Zion is steadfast and sure
There are those who would say the Light is dimming
Even hint that the fire has gone out
But to them I would say this fire burns today
I know for it burns in my heart
And the Light full of truth breaks the darkness
To the saved and sanctified there’s no doubt
That the Old Ship of Zion with Jesus Her captain
Through the storms will safely come out.
